Head of Finance Sustainability, Public Realm and Special Projects

Hackney

Hackney Council has set themselves some ambitious plans for the Council and borough, focused on helping achieve the best outcome for residents, changing the way we deliver services and always putting our residents and communities first. The Council has a key role to play in driving economic recovery in a way that builds community wealth and continues to make the borough greener and fairer. It will also work to support those impacted by the cost-of-living crisis and post pandemic, as well as continuing to build affordable homes and improving the private rented sector to help those impacted by the housing crisis.

To support these ambitious plans the Council is looking to appoint two Heads of Finance who will provide strategic leaderships for the Directorate they are supporting.

The Head of Finance Sustainability, Public Realm and Special Projects will lead a team providing strategic financial leadership for the directorate, ensuring the Medium-Term Financial Strategy is delivered alongside service priorities including sustainable transport and the net zero ambitions. They will need to foster professional working relationships with the Strategic Directors Sustainability and Public Realm and Engagement, Culture and Organisational Development, the Director of Legal Governance and Election Services, and the Head of Corporate Policy to provide financial support and advice to aid decision making. Key responsibilities will include;

  • Leading the finance support for the Council’s Climate Action Plan and net zero ambitions
  • Acting as finance lead for cross council projects as required
  • Being the finance lead for sustainable transport
  • Providing support to Environmental Operations functions
  • Finance lead for non-housing companies

To be suitable for the role you need to be a qualified accountant, with proven experience of leading and developing teams, embedding a high performance and value adding culture. Evidence of managing and directing major service delivery initiatives is also essential.

Hackney Council offers a hybrid working arrangement. At the Head of Finance level there is an expectation you will be in the office a couple of times per week.

For more information about the role or for a confidential discussion please contact Will Ryan at Ivy Rock Partners willryan@ivyrockpartners.com or 07909030965.

The closing date is Monday 27th March.

Hackney Council is passionate about equal opportunities and welcome applicants with a broad diversity of talent and those who are interested in flexible working arrangements.

The Council is also working towards our vision, which is to be a place for everyone; where residents and staff can be proud; a place that celebrates diversity and where everyone can feel valued, included and involved. In order to achieve this, we look for people who are: Proud; Ambitious; Pioneering; Open; Proactive; Inclusive.

Hackney Council works to eradicate discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, pregnancy and maternity, age and marital status. We also recognise that people can be disadvantaged by their social and economic circumstances, so we will also work to eliminate discrimination and disadvantage caused by social class. We also welcome those interested in flexible working. We particularly welcome applications from disabled people, as this group is currently under represented in our workforce.

The Council has a dedicated employment support service (Hackney Works), which offers Hackney residents guidance in relation to applying for jobs.
