Head of Finance – Children & Learning

Camden

Are you a dynamic and experienced finance professional with a passion for making a difference? Do you want to be part of a bold transformation in one of London’s most vibrant boroughs?

At Camden, we’re on a mission to create a borough where everyone has the opportunity to thrive — a place where people can live, work, study, and visit with pride. We aim to make a tangible, positive impact through radical social change, ensuring that no one gets left behind and that every resident has the chance to succeed.

About the Role
The Finance service at Camden is embarking on an exciting transformation journey, with a vision to deliver a high-quality, value-driven service underpinned by robust financial controls. As we continue to evolve, we are seeking a forward-thinking Head of Finance for Children & Learning to join our senior management team.

This pivotal role will lead the financial management and strategic direction for Children & Learning Services, guiding a team of Business Partners to deliver exceptional finance support and advice to service directors. You’ll be at the heart of helping them manage budgets effectively, achieve cost savings, and drive efficiencies — with a particular focus on services including child protection, education, and other children’s services.

You will also be involved in shaping both London-wide and national initiatives, forging strong partnerships with commissioners and external stakeholders, and ensuring financial strategy supports Camden’s vision for change and improvement in children’s services.

What You’ll Bring
We’re looking for a qualified accountant with significant experience in finance business partnering within children’s services or schools. You’ll need to be able to build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and have a track record of leading high-performing teams. A passion for influencing change and improving outcomes in children’s services is essential.

What Camden Offers
Camden offers hybrid working arrangements and excellent benefits including flexible working, an outstanding pension scheme and access to our incredible staff networks.

We want Camden Council to be a great place to work and to ensure that our communities are represented across our workforce.

A vital part of this is ensuring we are a truly inclusive organisation that encourages diversity in all respects, including diversity of thinking. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and those of Other Ethnicities, LGBT+, disabled and neurodiverse communities to make a real difference to our residents so that equalities and justice remains at the heart of everything we do.
