Director of Finance & Resources (Part or full time)

London

Bishopsgate Institute was “erected for the benefit of the public” in 1894, with the motto “I never stop learning”. Our purpose has not changed. We continue to be home for ideas and debate, learning and enquiry. We are a haven in the City, where culture, heritage and learning meet, and our mission is to inspire independent thought, and connect past and present. We celebrate the stories of people and communities often ignored or even demonised by the mainstream, and our special collections and archives contain extraordinary documents on individuals and organisations who have strived for social, political and cultural change.

Our beautiful historic building is open to all, and we are vibrant, curious community. We provide welcoming spaces for people to learn and flourish, and offer a diverse range of activities including social dancing, concerts, talks and discussions, and courses ranging from the History of LGBTQ+ Theatre to Yoga, Swing Dance to an Introduction to Podcasting.

The Director of Finance & Resources is a new role to support the Chief Executive & Artistic Director to strengthen our resilience and income generation whilst ensuring our charitable objectives and vision are met. The role manages both the finance and HR functions and supports the Board to ensure informed decision making. The Director also leads on the management of the permanent endowment and development and implementation of a sustainability model for the charity.

To be suitable for the role you need to have a strong commitment to the Institute and its mission with experience of managing a finance function in the not-for-profit sector, ideally with exposure to running venues. Proven experience of developing collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders and in building and implementing sustainable business models in complex organisations is essential.  A commitment to championing an equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace culture, with a proven ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds is crucial.

For a confidential discussion about the role or to see the candidate pack please contact Will Ryan at Ivy Rock Partners on willryan@ivyrockpartners.com or 07909030965.

The closing date is Sunday 18th September with first round interviews planned for the 6th and second round interviews for the 10th October.
