The Greater London Authority (GLA) is the centre of government for London, serving both the Mayor and the London Assembly. The Mayor of London sets the budget and is responsible for making London a better place for everyone and the Assembly holds the Mayor and Mayoral advisers to account. The GLA itself plays a key role in delivering projects across Greater London over areas including Housing, Transport, Environment, Culture, Economy and Regeneration.
We are currently recruiting for several roles in the expanding finance team, so they are better placed to support the delivery of the amazing work the GLA does. With all the roles you will be able to have a major impact across London and the people who live, work and travel there.
The Deputy Chief Accountant will lead a team of specialists, working closely with Chief Accountant, to ensure the publishing of financial statements and other external reporting for the GLA and GLAP entities. The role will be a technical expert for the Council, interpreting financial reporting standards and providing advice and support to senior stakeholders across the organisation. They will also be expected to drive through improvements and improve delivery as well as building a strong working relationship with the auditors.
To be suitable for the role you need to be a qualified accountant with excellent technical knowledge and previous experience of playing a key role in the closure of accounts in a large complex organisation.
